专家简介

1. Alexander Scherbatyuk

Dr. Alexander Scherbatyuk is the Director of the Institute for Marine Technology Problems /IMTP/ from Russian Academy of Sciences and the Head of the Scientific Education Centre “Underwater Robotics” in the Far Eastern Federal University /FEFU/. Scientific interest of Dr. Scherbatyuk is related with AUV designing and use for ocean research. He developed integrated navigation systems for different types of AUV based on board autonomous navigation system and additional acoustical, visual and bathymetric data. He designed technical vision systems for AUV used information from digital video and scan sonar systems for AUV docking and extended objects inspection. Dr. Scherbatyuk was head in semi AUV TSL (2000), AUV MMT (2005) and AUV&ASV MARC (2011) projects. He led experiments with AUV in areas of Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. He is the member of associate editors of four scientific journals. Dr. Scherbatyuk is the member of IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society.

2. Leo Lai CHAN

Dr. Chan is the associate director of the State Key Laboratory in Marine Pollution of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), the director of Shenzhen Key Laboratory for the Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity, the deputy director of the Shenzhen Research Centre for the Oceans and Human Health of CityU Shenzhen Research Institute and the visiting associate professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of CityU. Dr. Chan is also a member of Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the Chief Technical Advisor of State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University) and Adjunct Professor of Xiamen University.

Dr. Chan has broad interests in ecology and biodiversity in coral ecosystems. Under the support of two collaborative research fund (CRF) projects (funded in 2009 and 2015), he starts to work on coral ecosystem-related research, especially on the investigations of ciguatera fish poisoning (CFP) in live tropical reef food fishes. One of his research focuses is on evaluation of adverse impacts of CFP-related toxins on coral reef fish and hence coral ecosystems.

Dr Chan has extensive experience in development and implementation of scientific diving systems. He is a certified Open water SCUBA diver instructor, a Public Safety Diver Instructor and a Scientific Safety Diver Instructor. Dr. Chan is interested in developing advanced diving technology and tooling for specimen collection for marine genetic resources and natural products discovery during manned scientific dives within the mesophotic zone, and beyond.

Not only working actively at the frontier of marine environmental researches, Dr. Chan is also actively participated in community services and public educations. Through promoting diving training and related activities, Dr. Chan wishes to promote and raise the public awareness on the conservation of marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of valuable marine resources.
