! The Latest Agenda of the IWMO 2011

The 3rd IWMO will be held at the Sofia Hotel hosted by the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO) in Qingdao, China. Qingdao is a beautiful seaport city of China perched at the western shore of the Yellow Sea. A vibrant and popular tourist destination, Qingdao hosted the 2008 Olympic sailing competition. It is also the center for marine research and education in China.

The IWMO evolves from the POM users group meetings, but it is open to the ocean modeling community at large.  The 3rd-IWMO (2011) solicits abstracts for presentations at the workshop on all aspects of ocean and coupled air-wave-sea, ice and current-sediment modeling: processes, analysis and prediction.  The earth system is inter-connected on a broad range of temporal and spatial scales, and we welcome coastal, regional and basin-scale studies, as well as interdisciplinary topics.  As in the past workshops, we particularly encourage participations from young scientists - graduate students and postdocs, and will again host the Outstanding Young Scientist Awards competition.  Papers presented at the workshop will be eligible for submissions to the IWMO-3 Special Issue to be published by Ocean Dynamics Journal.

In view of the tragic events in Japan and in order to accommodate our Japanese colleagues who are enduring considerable hardships and inconveniences, we are extending the IWMO3 Abstract Submission deadline to April 30 (instead of March 31).  However, we encourage everyone to submit as early as possible before April 30.  In particular, we urge everyone to apply for Visa (to enter China) as soon as possible. Invitation letter can be provided even before the abstract submission.  For those requiring an invitation letter, please email xiacs@fio.org.cn (Dr. Changshui Xia).  Thank you.

Following the IWMO-2011 workshop, a training course will be organized  during June 10-16, 2011 (detailed information is attached on this webpage). Scholars especially young scientists are encouraged to fill in the application form and send to Dr. Xunqaing Yin at yinxq@fio.org.cn
