Key Laboratory of Marine Bioactive Substances, SOA

The laboratory puts the stress on research of bioactive substances in marine extreme environment, aims at the international development frontiers, conducts associated theoretical and applied basic research by using modern biotechnology, develops marine food, health food, drug, crop growth promoter, pesticide, biotechnology materials and fine chemical products, and actively promotes the commercialization of research achievements. The laboratory is equipped with advanced analytic instruments and equipment such as perfusion chromatography system, gas chromatograph, fluorophotometer, ultralow temperature refrigerator, PCR apparatus, CO2 incubator, bidirectional protein electrophoretic apparatus and patch clamp. There are 7 research scientists, 8 associate research scientist and 13 doctors in the laboratory. Up to now, 13 Ph.D. students and 13 master students have finished their program, and 28 graduate students are pursuing their graduate study.

Subject Directions and Major Research Fields
  Genetic engineering
      Clone and express functional genes of special marine organism living in extreme environment and commercialize genetic engineering products.
  Applied biochemistry
     

Identify structure and function of bioactive substances from organism in high salinity, deep ocean and polar region environments, discover functional leading compounds, modify and enhance the known natural products for their application to health care, food industry and agriculture.

  Applied microbiology
     

Discover, isolate and purify bioactive substances from marine microorganisms, determine their structure and function, isolate and identify major pathogenic microorganism in maricultural animals, and study its etiology and pathology

  Lipid chemistry
     

Extract, isolate and purify bioactive lipid, conduct chemical synthesis and molecular modification of active lipid and increase active lipid contents in marine organism.
