The laboratory specializes in marine ecology and environmental science. Taking aim at the development of applied theories and engineering techniques in the field of marine environment, marine ecology and coastal zone, the laboratory focuses its attention on studying the main marine ecological process and the mechanisms affecting the process investigating the dynamics of key marine ecosystems, analyzing the pollution mechanism and controlling strategies of marine environments, analyzing the pollution mechanism and controlling strategies of marine environment, studying the mechanisms of marine ecological disasters and the techniques and measures to prevent and control the disasters so as to provide scientific basis for protecting important marine ecological environment and biological resources. The laboratory is equipped with advanced measuring instruments, including high performance liquid chromatograph, automatic nutrient analyzer, element analyzer and so on. There are 38 staff members in the laboratory, the research team includes 6 doctors and 16 masters, and 256 Ph.D. students and M.S. students have finished their program.
