In order to enhance the scientific and technical cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea, Song Jian, DIRECTOR OF Committee of Science and Technology of China and Kim Jin-Hyun, Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology of Korea signed “Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea Governments” in Beijing in 1992. The State Ocean Administration of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Korea signed ”Memorandum of Understanding on China-Korea Cooperation in Marine Science and Technology” in October 1994, and the State Oceanic Administration of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Korea signed “Agreement on Establishment of China-Korea Joint Ocean Research Center” in Qingdao on May 12,1995, and at the same time the China-Korea Joint Ocean Research Center was established.

The establishment of research center is aimed at extending and developing the cooperation on marine science and technology between China and Korea, making joint efforts to raise the marine science and technology levels, jointly protecting the marine environment and promoting the sustained exploitation and utilization of marine resources.
