Laboratory of Marine Geology and Geophysics
The laboratory is focusing on researches of marine geological process and environmental evolution, marine geophysics and geo-tectonics, marine resources and mineralization, engineering geology and geohazards, and seafloor probing techniques. The investigated areas of the laboratory include estuary, coast, continental shelf, marginal seas, deep sea, and polar seas. Many unique research achievements are set up in the fields of muddy sedimentation on continental shelf, paleo-environmental evolution in mid to high latitude marginal seas, geophysical characteristics and tectonic evolution of marginal seas, seafloor polymetallic metallogenetic system, and high-resolution seismic probing techniques, etc. The laboratory has been keeping harmonious cooperation relationship with marine research organizations of more than ten countries such as Russia, Korea, Germany, America, France, Japan, etc. The laboratory has 56 permanent research personnel. Among them, 30 persons are PhD, and 78% personnel are younger than 45 years old. The effective seafloor probing and experimental platforms were established in the Laboratory and equipped with advanced investigation equipments and analysis instruments. The laboratory is the mandatory management organization of China Ocean Sample Repository and marine geological sample repository.
